OpenGlide

OpenGlide Versions

There are three versions of OpenGlide that work well with Red Baron 3D--OpenGlide_007b4 (October 30, 2002); OpenGlide_009rc5 (May 8, 2003);  OpenGlide_009rc6 (November 13, 2003). The last-named works best with my GeForce 4 4600 TI, but that may not be true on your rig so my advice is to experiment with all three. There are only two files--Glide2s.dll and OpenGlid.ini--included in each OpenGlide zip. The latter, once set up properly, will work equally well with all three, so you only have to swap out the single file Glide2s.dll to switch among versions.

dgVoodoo

dgVoodoo is an alternative to OpenGlide that uses Direct3D. Dege is the author; Polovski is coordinating the Red Baron3D testing.

The Rehabilitation of the “Maimed” Aviator

There are few things in Red Baron 3D more annoying than seeing your veteran pilot “maimed” and invalided out of the service after you have invested hours into furthering his illustrious career. The temptation to cheat—to load Tymophil’s Editeur de campagne pour Red Baron 3D and change the status of your aviator to “Actif”—is hard to resist.

If you are going to “cheat” (a recent survey found that 90 percent of all Red Baron 3D players cheat; the other ten percent lie), ought there not be a method, some rationale behind the miraculous rehabilitation of your pilot? The following chart provides that method, with a rationale that is not entirely illegitimate.

After all, would not a wounded aviator receive superior medical care, and thus be more likely to recover from his wounds, if he landed at an airbase, as opposed to landing in a cow pasture? And would not a pilot be most likely to receive timely care if he landed at his own base? Nor is it too much to believe that an aviator who had achieved sixty aerial victories would benefit from a more aggressive program of expensive rehabilitation than some rookie flier who had a single kill to his credit.

You will notice that, modifiers aside, you always have at least a 10 percent chance to be rehabilitated and a 10 percent chance to not be rehabilitated, no matter your number of kills. If your pilot is rehabilitated use Tymophil’s Editeur de campagne pour Red Baron 3D to change the status of your aviator to “Actif” and continue your campaign.

Use of the table is simple: roll a decimal die (counting 0 as 10) and apply the modifiers. If you roll a modified "1" you have been rehabilitated, if not you are permanently disabled. If you were rehabilitated, use the unmodified die roll to determine how long in months your rehabilitation takes. Adjust the date of your campaign using Von Tom's CM11.
